DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis indicted on corruption charges Print E-mail

DeKalb District Attorney Robert James just held a press conference to announce that he has handed down a 15 count indictment against CEO Burrell Ellis today.

The charges deal with corruption and Ellis solicitation of contributions for Ellis' political campaign. Companies that did not respond to requests were not allowed to do business with DeKalb County, the D.A. said.

DeKalb Sheriff's deputies, U.S. Marshal arrest murder suspect in Decatur Print E-mail

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad and the U.S. Marshal's Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested career criminal Nathaniel Cummings Monday at a Church's Chicken restaurant, 1808 Candler Road in Decatur.

Cummings, an ex-convict who has been in and out of prinon since 1992 for burglary and theft, is wanted for murder and burglary in Dodge County, GA. He was also wanted for burglary and probation violation out of Laurens County, GA. Cummings was booked into the DeKalb County Jail pending pickup by the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.

Rockdale Sheriff's Office issues BOLO on robbery suspect Print E-mail

The Rockdale Sheriff's Office has issue a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) for a robbery suspect who held up the BP gas station at 2992 Highway 155 in South Rockdale. The robbery occurred on Sunday, June 16, at approximately 10:25 p.m.

 

The suspect is described as a slender black male with a dark complexion who is average to below average in height.  He was wearing a black wave cap, khaki pants, a dark multi-colored shirt or jacket, tan and white shoes, and was armed with a black handgun.

The DeKalb Planning and Economic Development Committee will host a public information meeting and forum, Tuesday, June 18, 6:30 p.m,. at the Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur.

 

The public is invited to give comments on the recommended changes to the DeKalb County Zoning Code.

 

The zoning code is the principle tool used to implement a comprehensive plan and guide for DeKalb’s development.  In 2007, DeKalb County adopted a comprehensive plan that outlines the future vision for expansion; however, the county is using a 1999 zoning code to implement a 2007 plan.  In order to fully implement the comprehensive plan vision, the county needs a more updated zoning code that is consistent with current trends of development.

The DeKalb County Police Department Special Victim's Unit has developed a composite sketch of a man involved in a public indecency act. The incident occured June 6, 2013 around 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Covington Highway and Mercer Drive.
