Food waste recycling plant proposed for Southeast DeKalb PDF Print E-mail

DeKalb residents will meet this evening with officials of a Barnesville, GA environmental company to discuss plans for an organic composting plant on a tract of land at the Lafarge quarry on Highway 124.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Rock Chapel Elementary School, 1130 Rock Chapel Road, Lithonia.

The company, Greenco Environmental Inc., was court-ordered to leave the Barnesville area because of the stench.

Greenco had also been using animal carcasses and animal bedding materials to make its compost.

Greenco's attorney, Michele Battle, says the company has improved its compost formula, using food waste, grass clippings and cardboard waste.
