The funeral service for Doreen Carter’s husband, Roland Lankston Carter, will be held Jan. 29, 11 a.m., New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, 6400 Woodrow Road, Lithonia.

Mrs. Carter, who heads the Greater Lithonia Chamber of Commerce, said her husband died of a heart attack on Tuesday. He had been a dialysis patient for several years. He was 52.

Mr. Carter was a native of Oakland, CA. He attended Jackson State University in Jackson, MS, where he and Doreen met. They were married for 20 years and had three sons, Roland L. Carter II; Caleb E Carter; and Joshua I.M. Carter.

Mr. Carter was baptized at Beulah Baptist Church. He later joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the usher board and sang in the Nation of Jesus Choir.

In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Carter is survived by three brothers, Keith, Kirby and Terry; and one sister, Zina.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Herman L. Carter and Jeannie Carter; and a sister, Dodie Carter.

Viewing will be held on Jan. 28, 7 to 8 p.m., at Divine Mortuary, 5620 Hillandale Drive, Lithonia.  Viewing also will be held on the day of the funeral from 10 to 11 a.m. at New Birth’s chapel. Bishop Eddie Long is pastor of the church.
