Almarcus Thomas, a former Tucker Middle School teacher, will serve 20 years in prison for the rape and molestation of a 14-year-old student.
DeKalb Superior Court Judge Gail Flake sentenced Thomas, 43, to 30 years with 20 years in custody. The sentence was handed down today. Thomas pleaded guilty to multiple counts of child molestation, statutory rape, sexual battery, invasion of privacy. He had sex several times with the student while he was employed as a teacher at Tucker Middle School. The girl’s angry parents brought the matter to school officials after they found out. Investigators found nude pictures of the girl on Thomas’ computer. “These alleged crimes involve a man who preyed on a minor while in a position of authority and respect as an educator,” said DeKalb District Attorney Robert James. “This plea reflects the acts of a monster who molested, abused and took advantage of women and children in DeKalb County. We hope this begins the healing process for all individuals and families affected by these heinous crimes.”
Thomas has been in jail since Feb. 28, 2012. |
