CONYERS– The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is trying to determine if a 52-year-old man will be charged in a car accident that killed his 6-year-old grandson.

The crash occurred Thursday around 4:40 p.m. at the intersection of West Hightower Trail and Zingara Road in north Rockdale County.

Emilio Rosas-Bailon was traveling with his 28-year-old daughter and 6-year-old grandson in a 1993 Mercury Villager minivan. Rosas-Bailon stopped at the stop sign then pulled onto West Hightower Trail, where the vehicle was T-boned by 16-year-old Billy Alan Johnson, Jr., who was driving a Ford Explorer SUV with his 74-year-old grandmother as a passenger.  The SUV was travelling eastbound on West Hightower Trail and was unable to avoid the collision.

All five occupants from both vehicles were injured in the accident. The 6-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained. All other occupants were transported by ambulance to Atlanta area hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said charges are pending against the 52-year-old.
