At 6’3” and 311 pounds, A.J. Hawkins, Jr. is a good example of hard work and dedication paying off.

This week, Hawkins, a Martin Luther King Jr. High School and University of Mississippi graduate, showed NFL scouts what he is made of at the Ole Miss Pro Day.

“It went well. I think I put up some decent numbers,” said Hawkins, who ran a 4.9 in the 40-yard dash. “I met with three of the 14 teams that were there for personality tests and the one-on-one interviews.”

Pro Day at Ole Miss was held March 7. The Ole Miss offensive lineman, originally from Lithonia, participated in a number of agility drills such as the vertical jump, bench pressing and the shuttle drill.

“All my numbers are unofficial right now. We were all pretty nervous before we started, but once we started, everybody was set and ready to show the NFL teams what he had to offer,” said Hawkins, who started every game at right guard for the Rebels during the 2012 season. “I did pretty well. Before Pro Day started, Coach Freeze told us simply to stay focused and give it your all. That’s what I did.”

The Ole Miss Pro Day was held in the university’s indoor practice field. Official times and results will be posted in the coming days on www.nfl.com.

Mia and Aaron Hawkins said their son is now waiting for calls from the three teams that interviewed him.

“A.J. did quite well. We are very proud of him, ” Mia Hawkins wrote . “We thank everyone for their prayers and support. Please keep A.J. in your prayers.”
