'Tax Commissioner Talk' set in Rockdale tonight Print E-mail
Written by Valerie J. Morgan

Tonight, Rockdale County residents are invited to the first talk in a series of "Tax Commissioner Talks" with RJ Hadley, Rockdale Tax Commissioner. The series will kick off with a discussion on changes to the annual vehicle ad valorem tax in Georgia from 6:30 -7:30 p.m. at the Rockdale County Government Annex, 1400 Parker Road, Conyers.

HB 386, which was passed by the 2012 General Assembly and goes into effect March 1, calls for a new taxation method for motor vehicles purchased and titled in Georgia.

Vehicles purchased and titled on or after March 1 in Georgia will be exempt from sales and use tax and the annual ad valorem tax, also known as the
"birthday tax," and replaced by a new one-time ad valorem title tax based on the value of the vehicle. Citizens will be able to learn how this bill affects recent car owners as well as people who will purchase cars after March 1.

"Tax Commissioner Talks" will be held monthly and the meetings are open to the public. The next talk in the series will focus on Homestead Exemption with Board of Assessor's Director Lamar Sims and is set for Tuesday, Feb. 26, 6:30- 7:30 p.m., at J.P. Carr Services Community Room, 981 Taylor Street, Conyers.

For more information, call the Rockdale County Tax Commissioner's office at 770-278-7600.
