Rockdale volunteers honored at Olivia Haydel Senior Center

CONYERS—Rockdale County CEO Richard Oden recently honored volunteers at the Olivia Haydel Senior Center's Volunteer Breakfast.The annual event recognizes those who contribute positively to the center and community.
Oden sponsored the following wards:
- 2013 Senior Meals on Wheels Volunteer of the Year Pauline and LeRoy Hudson. The Hudsons, married 45 years, moved to Georgia from New York. They serve as Center Site Council representatives and have volunteered with Meals on Wheels since January 2007. Last year, they made 54+ deliveries to home-bound seniors.
- 2013 People's Choice Volunteer of the Year (*Tie. Selected by member votes) - Alice Nicholson, a longtime Center member, is the volunteer manager of the senior boutique and helps with volunteer activities and fundraising efforts. She also assists with Center tours and breakfast and has served on the Site Council for several years.
- Charles Kinsey is a newlywed married to center member Betty Wordlow. Charles assists around the Center with everything including fundraising, serving as a greeter for Meals on Wheels program to helping volunteers load their vehicles. Last year, he was named “Mr. Congeniality” at the Center and has been elected to this year's Valentine Court.
- 2013 Highest Volunteer Hours Contributed - Ouida Moore has been a Center member for 20+ years and currently is a kitchen and server volunteer. She also served on the Site Council for many years, is a founding member of the ceramics program and has won countless medals in the Georgia Golden Olympics. In 2013, she volunteered 938 hours with the Senior Center.
Oden said he appreciates all of the hard work the volunteers have put forth.
"I am passionate about our seniors and I want to honor those who unselfishly give of their time and talent to help others," Oden said. "I will make the presentations of these particular awards an annual event to let our seniors know that they are appreciated.
Oden also provided gifts to the more than 100 seniors attending the breakfast. The center gave away 2014 calendars to volunteers.
