DeKalb County has hired Fulton County’s former deputy fire chief, Darnell Fullum.
Interim CEO Lee May announced Fullum’s appointment as DeKalb’s fire chief today at a press conference. Fullum will be paid $150,000 a year.
May said Fullum is the best, long-term fit for the department. Fullum joined the Fulton department in 1995. Held the positionof depty chief since 2008.
He was named one of two finalists for the top job in DeKalb. Fullum was up against Teresa Everett, the fire chief in Gary, Ind. whose career has been marked by short tenures in several fire departments and 11 years working in various jobs in schools, government agencies and nonprofits.
