Downtown Decatur is alive again and ready for tons of summer fun.
The City of Decatur and the Decatur Business Association, which hosted its free Saturday “Concerts on the Square” and Wednesday “Blue Sky Concerts” in May, are gearing up for the Decatur Beach Party on June 15.
The Zydeco band, “Zydeco T,” which performed during the May music series got people on their feet as they danced on the square.
Atlanta Swamp Opera player Larry English founded “Zydeco T” in 2000. Equipped with an electric-purple accordion, stainless steel rub board, drums, guitars and a flute, the band blasted good time Mardi Gras style music.
The city is gearing up for its annual Beach Party. The party will be held June 15, 5 to 11 p.m., in downtown Decatur, 101 East Court Squarer. The streets will be transformed into “Ponce Beach,” which features 60 tons of sand.
There will be a kids’ boardwalk with games, two live bands, dancing on the plaza, a food court and cold beverages for sale.
The Beach Party welcomes headliner Yacht Rock Schooner. For the younger set, Douglas Brake and the Sizzle, Hiss, Pop Band will be on hand to perform for a kids’ concert.
The cost to attend is $7 for adults in advance or $10 at the gate. Children’s tickets are $5 for ages 3 – 12 years old.
The $5 fee includes all games and activities. Children ages 0 – 2 are free.
