Heavy winds prompt rescue calls in Rockdale

Rockdale County rescue workers responded to more than three dozen weather-related calls this morning as high winds brought down trees onto roadways, power lines and homes.

The majority of these calls occurred between 5:30 and 9:30 a.m., Rockdale Fire Chief Dan Morgan said.

"All response agencies are still working to clear the roadways," Morgan said. "Power companies have crews in the area and are clearing lines and restoring power to those individuals who lost electricity. We expect more trees to fall during the remainder of the day."

Units from Rockdale Fire Rescue, Rockdale Sheriff's Office, Conyers Police Depart and the Department of Transportation have responded to the calls, which were spread throughout the county.

There are no wide-spread power outages, but some individuals or small areas may have been affected, Morgan said. No injuries have been reported.
