Rockdale boil water advisory lifted

BOIL ADVISORY

CONYERS — On Sunday, June 8, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and Rockdale Water Resources lifted the boil water advisory issued early Saturday morning, June 7. The advisory was lifted Sunday morning after all samples tested by the EPD came back clear.

When water pressure in the distribution system fall below the acceptable level as specified by Georgia Environmental Protection Division a potential health hazard may result. Areas that experience the low pressure may be subject to experiencing backflow or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into their water distribution system and ultimately their drinking water.

Rockdale County’s water system experienced low water pressure in its entire water distribution system Friday night into Saturday morning that occurred during a thunderstorm earlier Friday evening.

The storm resulted in damage to the water treatment plant’s supervisory control and data acquisition system (also known as SCADA ) with the loss of automated control of water distribution system pressure. Pressure was restored but not before system pressure fell briefly below the acceptable level as required by the EPD.

When water pressure in the distribution system falls below the acceptable level, a potential health hazard may result. Areas that experience the low pressure may be subject to experiencing backflow or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality into their water distribution system and ultimately their drinking water.
