Tucker High School, 5036 LaVista Road, Tucker, has postponed the scheduled Region 6, 5A basketball tournament as Metro Atlanta tries to prepare for the expected severe weather changes.
“We’re postponing all activities tonight in an effort to be proactive and stay ahead of the weather,” said Horace Dunson, DeKalb County Schools Athletics Director. “I will be meeting with athletic directors from all the counties involved and we will release a statement with the new tournament schedule tonight.”
Dunson says that the tournament has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 14. The tournament will host several schools from not only DeKalb County, but Fulton County and the City of Atlanta as well.
DeKalb officials say the adjoining Region 6, 4A basketball tournament at Columbia High School, 2106 Columbia Drive, Decatur, will be postponed until Friday as well. Both tournaments will take place on Friday, Feb. 14, Saturday, Feb. 15, and possibly Monday, Feb. 17.
“We will have to do some double headers and make adjustments but with many of our school systems cancelling school all together, it doesn’t seem right to have players, fans, spectators and other supporters traveling in the worst time of the weather,” said Dunson. “We are doing this based on recent weather reports and we understand how difficult it can be to travel at night in these kinds of conditions.”
