Pine Lake breaks ground on Family Dollar store

The city of Pine Lake officials broke ground on a new Family Dollar store on Feb. 7. The 8,800-square-footstore at 4615 Rockbridge Road is expected to be completed this Spring.

“We are expecting the Family Dollar to be open in late April. Everyone is excited because this is the first development this city has had in a long time. We also hope the store will bring new developments to Pine Lake,” said Mayor deNobriga, who oversees a city of about 800 residents. “We can’t say for certain but I don’t believe the upcoming weather will delay construction too much. The construction company has set days scheduled to make up for bad weather days.”

McMichael’s Construction Company and the Boos Development Group are building the Family Dollar store, which will be on a little more than one acre of land.

In DeKalb County, Family Dollar has 25 locations. One is about a mile away from Pine Lake’s city limits.

“We want ours to look a little different than most Family Dollars, so they have agreed to put up a sitting area with benches, community bulletin board and bike racks,” said Mayor deNobriga. “We believe this will make our store unique and will better serve plenty of our residents who will walk or bike to the store.”

Family Dollar is a discount retailer that carries national name brands and private brands as well. The store sells a wide variety of health and beauty, household, pet and seasonal items, as well as refrigerated and frozen goods. Family Dollar sells clothing and apparel for men, women and children, too.

Family Dollar is currently accepting job applications online.

“Once open, this store will employ between eight to 10 teammembers and we look to hire from the communities we serve,” said Byrn R. Winburn, Family Dollar public and media relations manager. “Those interested in applying can visit www. familydollar.com or they can fill out an application at a nearby store. Job training will take place in the weeksbefore the store opens on location.”

The store will be open daily, with hours of operation to be announced ata later date.
