DeKalb to host March 15 forum on human trafficking

human-trafficking

DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May, Commissioner Stan Watson and the DeKalb County Human Services Department are organizing an open forum to educate the general community about the phenomenon of human trafficking on March 15, 2014 at 9 a.m. at the Lou Walker Senior Center, 2538 Panola Rd, Lithonia.

"Human trafficking is a most horrific crime as it targets children. I encourage anyone who can make it to join us for this, as it affects all of us in every community," said May.

The entire metropolitan Atlanta area is considered a major hub for the interstate trafficking of vulnerable individuals for sexual and other exploitation. Participants in this forum will learn about the nature of this criminal trend, its visible signs, and how individuals may be able to help authorities contain and prevent its growth.

The discussion panel includes: DeKalb Police Special Task Force - Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), and the following non-profit organizations: Georgia Care Connection (GCC); Interfaith Children¹s Movement; 4Sarah, Tapestri; and other faith based organizations.
