Congressman Hank Johnson announced this week that President Obama has endorsed his re-election to Georgia’s Fourth District.

“Congressman Johnson has done an outstanding job,” President Obama said in a statement released by Johnson’s campaign office. “Together, we are fighting to restore middle class security and expand opportunity for all Americans. I’ve worked with Congressman Johnson as we’ve
extended the security of health care to millions and pulled our economy back from the brink of collapse while protecting consumers and passing historic Wall Street reform. I am proud to stand with Hank and support his
re-election.”

The endorsement marked the third Johnson has received from the President, said Andy Phelan, Johnson’s spokesperson. Johnson also received endorsements for re-election from President Obama in 2010 and 2012.

“He (Johnson) has earned it. The Congressman was one of Georgia’s first federal lawmakers to endorse him (Obama) back in 2008 when he was a candidate for President. When others endorsed Hillary Clinton, Hank supported him,” Phelan said.

Johnson, who is seeking his fifth term and facing Democratic challenger Thomas Brown, DeKalb County’s former sheriff, said he is honored by President Obama’s support.

“I am honored by President Obama’s endorsement,” Johnson said. “My top priority in Congress is creating jobs in the Fourth District and working with the President to continue to grow our economy.”

With Georgia and the Fourth Congressional District still facing higher unemployment rates than the rest of the nation, Johnson said he is focusing his campaign on economic issues.
Johnson said he has helped bring more than $250 million to the district for schools, roads and police since he was elected in 2007. He said he also has worked to help secure more than $30 million for constituents seeking help with specific federal agencies.

“I am proud of my strong record in Congress and look forward to meeting new voters and constituents and continuing to work for the people of this District,” Johnson said.
