| Gwinnett: Lawrenceville sets trolley ‘Tour of Homes’ |
|
Potential homebuyers can board a bus one last time this month and visit homes that are for sale throughout Lawrenceville. Organizers of the Lawrenceville Trolley Tour of Homes say two Sunday tours set for June 28 is a “stimulus plan” they’ve created to help Lawrenceville help themselves during the recession. The free guided tours, which will mark the end of a 13-week series of tours, will take interested buyers to open houses scheduled by realtors, builders and developers. Led by Lawrenceville historian and author Mary Long, the tour will include stops at downtown Lawrenceville, community parks, new city projects and walking trails. Participants will receive “goodie bags” and have a chance to win prizes from raffle drawings. Rodney Carmen, who leads the tour with Long, says the events have received positive responses. “We tell people to come about 30 minutes before we leave the station to make sure they get a seat. We always pack out and have to turn some people away,” Carmen said. But the tour isn’t just about history and houses. Lawrenceville businesses get in on the action, too. “In addition to visiting the historic park and the several homes that are for sale, local business owners also get on at stops to hold giveaways for some lucky guests,” Carmen said. The tours begin at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Pickup is in front of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse, 185 W Crogan St. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. The trolley can carry 30 passengers per trip. For more information, visit www.newlawrenceville.com.
