A Healthy You 2010 Health Fair At the Gallery at South DeKalb

On Common Ground News was joined by Presenting Sponsors, Children’s Healtlhcare of Atlanta and the DeKalb Board of Health, for the “A Healthy You 2010 Health Fair” held at the Gallery at South DeKalb Mall on Jan. 23. The day was filled with information, prizes and giveaways. Two lucky winners won bicycles given by Wal-Mart and a cell phone from T Mobile at Stonecrest.

Vision Care

Dr. Gege Odion, P.C. of Opti World Vision Care, has been serving DeKalb County and the greater Atlanta area since 1995.

Heart Specialist

Dr. Cornelius Flowers, MD, is a cardiologist who specializes in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Personable and affable, he is considered one of the region’s top cardiologist. He is often featured in media outlets for his opinions as an expert on racial disparities concerning heart matters and other illnesses.

A member of the 100 Black Men of DeKalb, Dr. Flowers has conducted a series of workshops for the mentoring organization and other community outlets. Some of his talks, “Unnatural Causes: Is Inequity Making Us Sick? and “Place Matters” offer solutions to poor health habits that continue to lead to a disproportionate number of blacks, in particular, who are dying from cardiovascular diseases and conditions that can be avoided.

With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Flowers currently serves as a cardiologist at Emory Heart & Vascular Center in Lithonia. He is Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at Emory. He formerly served as chief of staff of DeKalb Medical at Hillandale in Lithonia.

Transplant Donations

LifeLink of Georgia is an independent, non-profit organ and tissue recovery organization dedicated to serving patients in need of transplant therapy and their families. Bobby Howard, manager of LifeLink’s Multicultural Donations Education Program, provides information to increase the public’s awareness of the growing need for organ and tissue donation.
