CONYERS, GA—A new outdoor learning center constructed by community volunteers at the Big Haynes Creek Nature Center will be the host location for community events starting in late August.
“We are proud to offer outdoor education in a setting that promotes ample wildlife-viewing opportunities of more than 2,000 plant and animal species that reside at the Nature Center,” said Dawn Tanner, event manager. “It’s also a chance for visitors to learn the value of healthy wetlands, as our community’s drinking supply comes from this very habitat.”
The outdoor learning center was completed this spring after a culmination of numerous volunteer hours and supplies by employees from Lowes Home Improvement, Girl Scout Troop 10033, Peachtree Academy’s Eco-Club students, and the artists of The Sketching Pad.
The nature center will host a live turtle demonstration at the outdoor learning center in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on Saturday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Big Haynes Creek Nature Center, a 173-acre public greenspace at the Georgia International Horse Park.
On Friday, Oct. 6, the DNR will host a bat detection walk 6 p.m.-8 p.m., leaving from the outdoor learning center.
Admission is free to both events, but space is limited and available via registration on Eventbrite.com.
