STONECREST, GA—The Stonecrest City Council will have a Special Called meeting today, April 17, 6 p.m.
The agenda lists four key action items: A decision for City Manager Appointment, Extension of the City Manager vacancy, Stonecrest Development Authority Appointments and Decision for Stonecrest Development Authority Intergovernmental Agreement.
According to information in the agenda packet, the Council will vote on extending the appointment of City Manager for an additional 30 days—making the appointment on or before May 17, 2023. Previously, the council had extended the 30-day period from March16, 2023 to April 17, 2023.
Mayor Jazzmin Cobble will make a presentation concerning the appointment of members to the Stonecrest Development Authority, which had previously operated independently of the city.
Among the highlights concerning the city’s proposed Inter-government Agreement (IGA) with the Stonecrest Development Authority: The power officially would be transferred to the city. The Authority would use City Hall for its meetings and operational purposes. The City would appoint one staff member to act as the Authority’s executive director and that person who would be responsible for all of the Authority’s minutes, records, contracts and other official documents, and for ensuring the Authority’s compliance with state laws and city ordinances. All utilization would be coordinated through and at the direction of the City Manager.

Attention Stonecrest City County: Where’s the transparency? District 4 resident Malaika Wells expressed her concern in an open letter sent to On Common Ground News stating that she believes the Stonecrest City Council is “operating in a vacuum.” Wells is calling on the council to provide transparency in the appointment of a new city manager and a more detailed discussion of the Stonecrest Development Authority ahead of its vote on the matter at the Special Called meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. today, April, 17, 2023. Here is the link to the open letter:

I don’t know what to say . As optimistic as I tried to be about new leadership in Stonecrest,I’m beginning to lose hope in their recovery. It seems like a case of different leadership but the same problems.
I’ve always wanted to try the Milk and Honey restaurant in Decatur and eventually will time permits. I feel fortunate that one has been put near the neck of my woods. I’ve also passed by their restaurants in the other cities but the owner of the restaurants also going to open a different one in Cascade. If completed,it will be in a nice looking “food plaza”. Seemingly, every other metro county, except South DeKalb county are getting good things.
I just don’t get it what are the hold ups?I’ve also wondered about Stonecrest? It’s getting to a point where maybe they city should give back to Lithonia or dissolve the city as a whole? I just feel like that the city are playing games with it’s citizens. Supposedly, a mixed use development project will come to South DeKalb Mall. Seems cool but I don’t trust the 1/2 of the development team as he has a poor reputation of draining money out of the properties then stiffing their clients with crap. Stonecrest was supposed to get a a sports facility while Clayton county was supposed to get another city. Neither materialized.. seemingly under shady circumstances.
Ill believe it when I see it . Otherwise my skeptism is getting higher.I wish I was more optimistic about my county.
